RFPs Suck! How to Master the RFP System Once and for All to Win Big Business

51NLjdd6tkL._SL350

It used to be that you could ignore RFPs. Only a small portion of the market used them in their buying process and you could work around those companies. Today, governance rules dictated by boards and administered by finance have made RFPs and RFQs a dominating component of the large-deal world. Not only can you no longer ignore them, but you need to know that companies use RFPs-and increasingly purchasing and procurement-for many reasons that have little to do with the opportunity offered in the official document. The result?

We all have no choice but to go through the expensive and time-consuming process. And though you might like to believe the system is fair, if your company is pitching a disproportionately larger client, you’re at a disadvantage from the moment you begin the process. WHY? Because the RFP system is not built for you. It’s built for big companies and government institutions that benefit from RFPs. But no matter how hard you try to avoid them, there will inevitably come a day when that irresistible RFP lands on your desk. It’s almost like it was written for you. This book is your best guide on what to know, to question and to do when faced with that RFP. It will also help you develop the confidence and understanding to know when to quit the process before it even starts or when to stay in it and win big.

RFP’s do suck and take precious time away from the other things I would (much) rather be doing. They are a necessary evil of the AEC industry and a marketing professional, but a book to help me achieve greatness in proposal writing would be pretty awesome! Thanks for the contest and thanks to Matt Handal for promoting it on your “Help Everybody Everyday” email…much appreciated!

Appreciate being able to access Proposal information. To access real life developed material is a wonderful  opportunuty.
The RFP Sucks material was very helpful in developing strategy that allowed us to work with the client to scope their requirements.

I have not read “RFPs Suck”, but, as they are an integral part of what I do, have to agree with the sentiment. I would love to be able to get to the front end of where the RFPs are being generated to educate the writers on a better way of doing business. Today the process is too cryptic, causing a lot of wasted time, effort, and money and resulting in long evaluation processes, protests, and contracts that do not satisfy the true needs. Until we can address the problems at the front end, mastering the development of proposals in response to poor RFPs is a necessary though insufficient fix.

Next week, we are giving away Matt Handal’s “Proposal Development Secrets: Win More, Works Smarter, and Get Home on Time.” Who will be the winner? :)

Wonderful. I also want to see these books! I want to try and incorporate commercial advertising withing my proposal. Most clients are visual, most only have a few minutes to look over what your selling them. It’s great we live in a age of technology and we have a proposal software to send out instead of doing so much door to door. Think back to Kernal Sanders from KFC, that man wore a white suit everyday, slept in his truck and went door to door to sell??? “Chicken”. He became wealthy because he believe in his idea and knew that in order to make a business work thousands of people need to see it. A business becomes reconizable by selling as much as you can.
